forever house
twenty nine years ago this month, my husband and i bought our first and only house. our son was three months old. we wanted to raise him in a solid, stable environment. we wanted a neighborhood, small town, community where he could grow always be able to return to a home he had known his entire life. i can name so many of the neighbors who were here before me. little on this road have changed, while the town has grown and prospered.
the house has changed, as have all of us. remodeling, additions, revamping, all those things have happened to us and the house. to use a term from a friend, this is our forever house.
we so enjoy our place where we wave to the mail carrier, who lives on our street, where we can text the UPs guy for information, where fire and police know us and the car we drive.
we could not have imagined the technological changes that would happen in those years, but we could imagine feeling safe secure and totally at home in our new forever home.
